Newsletters

The Ontario Ecotourism Society offers two newsletters, for industry and consumers, which are released on a quarterly basis (March, June, September and December).

"Ecotourism Ontario" provides helpful information on the ecotourism industry in Ontario.  Each issue includes practical advice on running a tourism business in both environmental and economically sustainable ways, highlights an exemplary ecotourism organization or initiative and provides updates on the tourism community in Ontario.

"Eco-Traveller Ontario" was created specifically for eco-tourists and green minded individuals travelling in Ontario.  Each issue provides travellers with helpful information on ecotourism in Ontario.  It also includes practical advice on 'green' travel designed to help consumers make responsible travel decisions.  As well, each issue will focus on an ecotourism operator in Ontario and inform travellers of the many travel choices available to them across the province.

Highlights From Ecotourism Ontario Spring 2010 Edition:

The Times they are a Changin ~ The structure of tourism in Ontario is currently undergoing great change.  The Minister of Tourism's announcement on December 18, 2009 outlined the new look of 13 tourism regions in Ontario.  The structure of the new Regional Tourism Organizations and who will be assuming these roles is currently under development.  The change is a result of cunsultation with stakeholders across the province and the recommendations from the "Discoverying Ontario:  A report on the future of tourism" dubbed the Sorbara Report. Along with the new tourism regions an additional $25 million will be injected into the budget over each of the next two years to transition to the new regions and building a stronger tourism industry.  We wanted to know what you think of this direction and whether it will lead to a stronger tourism industry in Ontario.  I hope the variety of perspectives presented in this newsletter will be informative and help you better negotiate the changing tourism landscape.  We are pleased to present an article prepared by the Honourable Michael Chan, minister of Tourism and Culture in this issue.   .
